Going Green 2020 comes to Brimbank these July school holidays

We're excited to announce Going Green 2020 - a mini-festival happening online in the July school holidays (7-11 July) inspiring families to celebrate and protect our environment through art.

Join us for our special green-themed program of short film screenings courtesy of our friends at the Environmental Film Festival Australia (EFFA), online performances, workshops and art.

Going Green Short Films
Presented by Environmental Film Festival Australia

Launch: Wednesday 8 July, 1pm
Available until: Thursday 9 July, 12midnight

Step into the magical world of nature and wildlife and discover the joy of the natural world through this selection of six curated short films. The films explore environmental topics ranging from the secret lives of creatures invisible to the naked eye to stories from the oceans. Suitable for primary school age children

Each film is under 10 minutes and will be available to view on EFFA’s Vimeo channel over two days (8 and 9 July). No registrations required.

The Owl’s Apprentice
Presented by Little Wing Puppets

Premiere: Friday 3 July, 3pm – Performance only via Facebook (duration 30 mins)

Main Event: Friday 10 July, 3pm – Performance and Q&A via Zoom (duration 60 mins)

Poot Poot is a young owl sent to study at owl school. On his journey he meets an Echidna, a Wombat, a Kookaburra, a Lyrebird, a Kangaroo and a Platypus who each share with him their own special kind of wisdom. But will he pass the final test and become wise enough to save the forest? The Owl’s Apprentice is an interactive show for families combining puppetry and physical comedy.

Lovely and Lonely Species Workshop
Presented by Jo Mott

Launch: Tuesday 7 July, 10am

Join us for an online interactive, hands-on art and craft workshop highlighting the common and endangered native animals we find in our local Brimbank area.

Workshop video will be delivered and available through the Creative Brimbank Facebook Page, follow us for updates. No registrations required.

Puppetry of Paper
Presented by Jenny Ellis (Little Wing Puppets)

Workshop: Friday 10 July, 10am and 12noon (60 min per session)

Scrunch, rip, twist, tear…. Watch your page leap to life and onto the stage. Join Little Wing Puppets for an interactive live-streamed workshop where children (ages 5-12) can create using materials you have at home, as well as participate in drama games and short performances.

Workshops will be delivered via Zoom, registrations required

She Danced and Sang
Virtual Exhibition by Melanie Obst

Available to view during the festival

Melanie Obst creates semi-abstracted paintings drawn from native vegetation and the Wimmera landscape. Practicing art for over two decades Mel has recently refocused her efforts onto the development of her painting oeuvre. She explores lines, colours and repeated patterns, and is inspired by the Wimmera landscape.
